Teacher, Joeys and Educational Leader
I have always wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. I clearly remember myself at kinder finger painting. I thought if I could do this for a job how fun would it be! Now I realise how much learning there is in such a simple experience. I enjoy documenting this learning to make visible how important Early Childhood Education is. I have been working in Early Childhood for over 20 years. This has included teaching in kindergarten, early intervention and music. My husband and I have two children. We love traveling and have done two big trips around Australia in our caravan.
Teacher, Possums and Nominated Supervisor
I have been a Kindergarten Teacher in the Chelsea area for about 12 years. Previously, I have taught sessional kindergarten in a variety of settings and locations during which time, I have had 5 children. I am passionate about Early Childhood Education and supporting children and families during this critical period of learning in children's young lives. I love that Early Childhood teaching and learning is child-centered, flexible, responsive and lot of fun! In my spare time, I love to be in nature, camping on the Murray River with my family and 2 dogs, Maggie and Lucy.
I have worked in both Early Childhood and Special Needs settings here in Australia as well as in London. My passion is teaching three year old kindergarten. I am passionate about creating an inclusive play based environment where the children feel safe, secure, respected and nurtured as they learn, explore, create, discover and have fun! Having lived in the Chelsea/Edithvale area for over 20 years I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I live with my husband and 2 boys who like to acknowledge they are taller than me. When I'm not working, I love spending time with my family and friends, keeping fit, going to the beach, shopping and going on holidays.
Being a Kindergarten Teacher has always been my passion. Having taught in Early childhood education for over 20 year now, I believe children thrive in an environment that supports learning by encouraging play, exploration and interaction. I aim to provide an atmosphere where children and families feel welcomed, supported and respected. Outside of kinder l am a busy mum of two children and during my spare time l love going to the movies, travelling and going to the beach with my family.
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Thornell
Educator, Possums & Wombats
I'm Liz or Lizzie as I'm known by everyone at kinder. I have been working as a Co-Educator with both the three and four year old groups over the last 19 years. I love the sense of community at our kinder and that we all work closely together to provide a safe and happy environment for the children to learn and play. I have two daughters who are also in the Education field. To relax I love listening to music and going for walks. I also enjoy camping and have recently taken up kayaking too for some fun.
I have been an educator for nearly 25 years now and I’m still very passionate about it. My Interests are: Spending time with family (two daughters and four grandchildren) friends, seeing a good movie, having great conversations, listening to music, reading, motorsports, visiting or virtual art exhibitions and live theatre. I have always loved my job and enjoy getting to know not only the children each year but also building relationships with families. Kindergarten is such an important year for children, I believe it sets children up to become curious and engaged learners for life.
I am so happy to be part of the Chelsea Heights Kindergarten team. I feel very priviledged to be able to educate each child and love getting to know all their personalities. I hope each child feels safe, secure and supported when in my care. Outside of kinder I love spending time with my two sons and husband as well as going on holidays to sunny Queensland.
I am very excited to join the Chelsea Heights Kindergarten team having worked in community sessional kindergartens for over 20 years.
I enjoy building strong connections with children and families and I am passionate about play based learning and believe that children learn best when they are immersed in a safe, secure and nurturing environment. My husband and I have lived in Aspendale Gardens for 25 years where we have raised our 4 sons and now have 4 grandchildren as our family continues to grow.
I love going on family holidays, travelling and keeping active.
Educator, Extended Care
I am extremely excited to be a part of the Chelsea Heights Kinder team. I enjoy supporting children to build on their self-confidence through secure and caring relationships. I thrive in extending children’s learning through play-based experiences and am filled with joy as they venture into new discoveries. I enjoy sharing music, singing, and dancing within our day, which helps to promote relaxation and self-expression.
In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, craft and keeping myself active through light exercise. I am surrounded by a supportive family who love heading out together on day trips and holidays.
Extended Care Educator
I'm very pleased to join the team at Chelsea Heights Kinder. I am passionate in providing all children a safe and healthy environment in their education and hope to share my interests in crafts, learning through play and discovering new experiences with the children.
In my spare time, I love going on long drives down the coast or to the countryside with my husband and 3 children, spending time with family and friends or relaxing with a cup of tea and a good book. I have also developed a new hobby of indoor/outdoor house plants like many others during the last couple of years.
Extended Care Educator
I am thrilled to join the team at Chelsea heights kindergarten. As a Chelsea local I have had the privilege of seeing my own children attend the kindergarten over the years and understand the value of a close and supportive community. I am passionate about education in the early years and see young children as adults in training. I believe in strong connections through honest conversations and respectful interactions.
Spending time with young people, extending their learning and understanding about the world around them brings me joy and pride. I believe human beings are life long learners and I look forward to fostering a love of learning and enquiry through play, at Chelsea heights Kindergarten.
Aside from education, my other passions lie in food and nature. I enjoy spending time in nature, walking on our beautiful beach, camping with my family and making memories. When not enjoying the great outdoors I am cooking, baking or researching the next restaurant or market I will visit.
Administration Officer and Educator
I'm so excited to be apart of the staff at Chelsea Heights kinder. My daughter started here in 2020 and i joined the committee as grants officer, vice president, president and now as Admin officer. When i put my name down as a parent helper i realised how much i'd love to work with children and foster their first steps in education. So i decided to get my diploma in early childhood and education. I love being able to help the children, be their friend and create amazing experiences for them. I cover the extended care educators lunch breaks on a friday. I am equally passionate about being Admin officer and work 3 days a week in the office. My job is to help staff and committee and ensure we are compliant. I look forward to many years at Chelsea Heights Kinder.
