Birthdays & Celebrations

Birthdays

We love celebrating children's birthdays by singing happy birthday, blowing the real candles out on a wooden cake, wearing a birthday hat, giving them a birthday certificate, letting them choose between a sticker or badge to take home. So, there is no reason for you to bring in any lollies or cakes.

Celebrating the Diversity of Our Kindergarten Community

At the beginning of each year, our Getting to Know You form asks families to share any cultural, religious or other significant celebrations that are important to your family.

Our educational team reads through this information as we value the rich diversity within our kindergarten community. Throughout the year, if there is a celebration your family observes, we invite you to come into your child's group to share it with the children. If you're unable to attend, we'd love to seek your ideas and guidance on meaningful and respectful ways we can incorporate the celebration into our curriculum.

Each kindergarten group is unique, with its own mix of children, families, cultures, traditions and experiences. Our curriculum is therefore responsive to the children and families within each individual group. Educators acknowledge and celebrate the diversity represented in their own class, creating authentic learning opportunities that reflect the identities, backgrounds and lived experiences of the children who attend that group.

By working in partnership with families, we can provide meaningful experiences that foster a strong sense of belonging, respect for diversity and an appreciation of different cultures, traditions and beliefs. These experiences support children's understanding of themselves, others and the world around them, in line with the VEYLDF's vision for inclusive, culturally responsive practice.

Thank you for sharing your family's traditions with us. We look forward to learning together throughout the year.
